A WorldCup 3-Cushion tournament like the 1999 and 2001 WorldCup events in Las Vegas will be held at the Stardust Hotel on July 8-13, 2003, with the final match on the afternoon of Sunday, July 13th. The tournament is sanctioned by the USBA and the BWA, and will feature the top 3-cushion players in the world. The defending champion is Torbjorn Blomdahl of Sweden.
The qualification tournament, which takes place on the first three days of the tournament, will be limited to 144 players. Each player will play at least two matches in a best 2-of-3 15-point sets format. The top 12 finishers in the qualification part will join the 20 top international players in the main event which begins on Friday, July 11th. Entry to the qualification event is $150, and must be paid in advance to guarantee a spot.
Included in the entry fee is a six-day player's pass to see the whole tournament and one three-day guest pass for the qualification tournament. See below for the cost to upgrade these passes.
Payment for entry can be made either to the BWA office or to the organizer, Bob Jewett. [Click here for address.]
Also acceptable as payment is 200 CHF (Swiss francs) or 140 Euros. Entry allows the player admission to the entire tournament, which normally costs $100 for all six days.
All players must be members of their respective national carom federations. For US players, that is the USBA.
It is strongly recommended that your entry be paid before any travel arrangements are made.
Tickets will be sold at the door, or may be pre-purchased by mail or by Paypal payment.
The VIP seating is in chairs on risers at tables, forming a border around the playing area. The bleacher seating is raised, and the bleachers are padded, so they are good seats but further from the tables.
Ticket prices (each ticket is good all day):
Day Reg. VIP Tue $15 $25 Wed $15 $25 Thu $15 $25 Fri $25 $50 Sat $30 $60 Sun $40 $70 ------------- Tot $140 $255 (if bought separately)
Six-day passes: Regular $100, VIP $200, 10% discount for USBA members on passes (but not on single tickets).
The charge for a player to upgrade from regular to VIP seating is $100 ($250 total, including entry). Each player gets one guest pass for the preliminaries, and that pass can be upgraded to include the main tournament for $60. Guest pass upgrade to VIP for the whole tournament is $150.
Pre-pay by check or Paypal to Bob Jewett.
There will be an eight-hour training course for referees on Monday, July 7th, taught by BWA referees from The Netherlands. The best referees in the preliminary rounds will be selected to help in the finals, and will be provided with full tuxedos. Contact Dennis Dieckman cuebuilder@cuemaker.com to volunteer for refereeing or scorekeeping.
The Stardust was remodelled in 2000, and is a very nice venue for the event, located on the Las Vegas Strip within walking distance (a warm walk) from the Sands Convention Center, where the Billiard Congress of America will be hosting its annual International Trade Expo July 10-11-12. The Stardust tournament room is a few steps from the hotel towers.

The tables have heated 60-mm (2.36-inch) thick slate in four parts. Chevillotte tables have been used in over 30 national and international events since 2000, including the World Games and the Asian Games.
